FAQ

You have questions, we have answers.

Features

What web browsers do you support?

The dashboard currently supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer (8 and higher).

The browser extension currently only supports Chrome and Firefox. We'll be releasing browser extensions for Safari and other browsers soon!

How do I store account login credentials?

CommonKey users can store accounts two ways:

  1. Logging into sites in the web browser, where the extension auto-detects and prompts to save the information to their CommonKey account, and
  2. Clicking the "+ Add Account" button on the dashboard and either selecting from a crowd-sourced list of popular sites OR adding a "Custom Account".

Why aren't there more web applications available to add in the dashboard's Automatic Login list?

There are currently over 800 applications available to choose from that allow you and your team to automatically log in without seeing the username or password. Each web app has been identified as a commonly accessed web app, and our team has tested and verified their login methods. The CommonKey team continues to review new web apps based on crowd-sourced input from our user base. Have a recommendation? Email us at info@commonkey.com to send us a site for our review!

If your web app isn't listed there are two other options for storing and sharing accounts:

  1. The browser extension will automatically detect logins and will provide a prompt upon submission, requesting whether the username and password should be saved to your CommonKey account. These accounts are then capable of being automatically logged in. The browser extension auto-detect feature detects almost every website, but we're constantly improving our algorithm to capture more outliers.
  2. Using Custom Accounts, you can add the username and password to a web application or FTP/VPN, which when shared, will display the account information and allow the password to be viewable and can be copied to clipboard.

Pricing

Are there any upfront fees?

No. There are no upfront fees or "service charges" to setup and use CommonKey. We designed our service to provide enterprise level solutions without the enterprise cost or maintenance. You can sign up right now and try it out without ever pulling out your credit card. (Click here to sign up!)

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club. Billing is managed in your dashboard where you can see the total of users your paying for and enter and update your credit card information.

Do you offer discounts to non-profits or schools?

We believe in supporting those who place others first. Charitable non-profits are eligible for a 30% discount and we ask educational institutions to contact us regarding our education services. Please contact sales@commonkey.com for additional info.

Is there a long-term contract?

Absolutely not. CommonKey was built to be easy and based on a monthly subscription service. There is no long-term contract and no minimum term requirements. If you stop your service, you'll only be billed for the current month, pro-rated appropriately.

What if I want to create and manage multiple companies?

That's an easy question! You can create as many companies to meet your needs. Pricing is based on the number of users for each company.

How does the 3 user free plan work?

CommonKey is free for teams of 3 users and fewer. If you want to add a 4th user, you'll have to upgrade to the paid plan and will be charged $2/user/month for all 4 users ($8 per month).

Billing Details

Additional companies created by a CommonKey user will not be eligible for the free tier of teams of 3 users and fewer. The $2 per user per mo is for "Team Password Management." Additional security features are available and can be enabled from the dashboard, learn more here.

How does the 14-day free trial work?

You have access to all the features of CommonKey for 14 days, no restrictions and no credit card required. We know you'll love it and that's why we don't ask for a credit card up front. After 14 days you'll need to upgrade to a paying account or you'll automatically be put on our free plan for 3 users.

Security

Why does log in and registration take so long?

To maintain the appropriate level of security and ensure your private data stays private, we implement encryption standards used by the world's leading security authorities. These protocols take a little longer than your average website, but we're also protecting the most important thing to your company, your keys.

How do I know my account information is secure?

We hold security paramount. No one should have access to your private data, including us. CommonKey never stores your sensitive information in plaintext and is encrypted using leading industry security standards. (Click here for additional detailed info about security)

Why does the invitation process take longer for non-CommonKey users?

To maintain security without compromising your sensitive information or enabling vulnerabilities, we do not initiate the encryption process associated with sharing login credentials until the invited team member has created a CommonKey account. The workflow for the encryption process for non-CK users are as follows:

  1. The non-CommonKey user receives the invitation via email, creates a CommonKey account and accepts the invitation. The user will not have access to the accounts.
  2. A response email is sent to the inviter, notifying them the user accepted the invitation. To initiate the encryption process, the inviter needs to either log into the dashboard (or refresh it) OR hit the extension refresh button (blue button at the top). Performing one of these actions will initiate the encryption process.
  3. A final email will be sent to the new user, instructing them to either log into the dashboard OR hit the extension refresh button to receive access to the accounts.

What happens if I forget my password?

To maintain the highest level of security possible, no one has access to your account besides you. This means if you forget your CommonKey password there is no way for our team to recover your account.

However, to help, we've added a password reminder (created in the dashboard) that will be sent to your registered email address upon your request. To be sent your password reminder, click on the Forgot Password? link at the CommonKey login screen.

As a last resort, you can follow the account RESET instructions found when following the "Forgot Password?" steps at our login page.

NOTE: This will RESET your CommonKey account, clearing it of all encrypted data and shared access to accounts.
